100 Countries, Regions Announce Participation In 2025 World Expo
One hundred countries and regions have so far announced their intention to take part in the world exposition scheduled for 2025 in Osaka, western Japan.
Minister for the World Expo 2025 Wakamiya Kenji told reporters on Friday that 13 countries and regions, including Cote d'Ivoire, are the latest to announce their participation. Wakamiya added that seven international organizations had made their plans known as of Friday.
The Japanese government hopes that 150 countries and regions as well as 25 international organizations will participate in the event.
Wakamiya said about a dozen other countries are apparently planning to take part but are withholding announcements.
He said that brings the total number of nations and regions to nearly 75 percent of the government's target. He said the government will step up its campaign to ensure broader participation in the exposition.
