Koreeda's 'broker' Nominated For Top Prize At Cannes Film Festival

Japanese film director Koreeda Hirokazu's "Broker" has been nominated for the top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. It is Koreeda's first film to be produced in South Korea.
"Broker" is among this year's lineup in the competition category announced on Thursday.
The story features a mother who leaves her baby in a baby box where newborns can be dropped off anonymously to be taken care of by others. She later returns to find unknown men trying to kidnap the baby. They then set out on a journey together to find adoptive parents for the baby.
South Korean stars feature in the film, including Song Kang-ho who played the leading role in "Parasite."
"Broker" is Koreeda's sixth work to be nominated in the competition. In 2018, he won the Palme d'Or with "Shoplifters."
Koreeda said he shared the excitement of the nomination with the South Korean actors and staff. He said he wants to go to Cannes with as many of them as possible.
The 75th edition of Cannes will run from May 17 through May 28.
