Ngo Provides Financial Support To Ukrainian Evacuees In Japan
A non-governmental organization based in Japan is providing financial support to people who evacuated from Ukraine to Japan.
The Association for Aid and Relief, Japan, has started offering the financial aid in cooperation with another organization, after the NGO heard about evacuees' lack of living expenses.
They are calling for donations in order to help provide support until the evacuees can receive government assistance.
The group on Monday gave support money to Lorina Shuta, who is 27. She says she used to work as an interpreter for Japan's Embassy in Kyiv.
She came to Japan with her 2-year-old son and 58-year-old mother on April 3. She handled the plane tickets from Romania herself.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is offering housing to the family. But she said they could only bring a stroller and clothes and soon ran out of almost all the money they had.
Shuta said they could make ends meet if she finds a job, but she is worried about life in Japan unless she can earn some money. She said she appreciates the support.
Furukawa Chiaki, a managing director of the association, said they launched the emergency program after hearing Ukrainian evacuees in Japan are struggling with their daily lives. She also said they are calling for donations so her organization can provide substantial support.
