Nissan E - Nv200 Winter Camper Concept Is A Green Pop - Top Camper

Nissan e-NV200 Winter Camper Concept is a green pop-top camper

Once again, Europe is showing off its wealth of factory supported pop-top campers. This one comes from Nissan, and while it's technically a concept, it's mostly built using factory accessories. Yes, the Nissan e-NV200 Winter Camper Concept could be easily replicated if you live across the Atlantic.

It's based on a standard Nissan e-NV200 van, which features a 107-horsepower electric motor and 40-kWh battery. From there, Nissan added the Nissan Camper Technology Luxury Kit, which features much of the camping equipment inside such as the stovetop, refrigerator, beds and insulated windows. A solar panel is mounted to the pop-up roof, supplying power to the 220-volt interior power pack. Other factory accessories include the mud guards and rubber floor mats.

Ford, Mazda to recall 3 million vehicles with Takata air bag inflators

DETROIT — The U.S. government's highway safety agency has rejected a request from Ford and Mazda to avoid recalling about 3 million vehicles with potentially dangerous Takata airbag inflators.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday the ammonium nitrate propellant used to inflate the driver's airbags is showing signs of decay and poses a safety risk.

Toyota Builds Autonomous Drift Supra, For Safety Reasons

Toyota builds autonomous drift Supra, for safety reasons

Remember the electric, autonomous drift DeLorean that Stanford University researchers built? It's hard to forget, but now those researchers have a new toy. Toyota has joined the good folks at Stanford's Dynamic Design Lab, and it's brought a Supra along for the ride. This Supra isn't like any other Supra, though. Just like the electric DeLorean, this one is designed to drift around autonomously. Check it out in action in the video above.

The goal of this project is to bring together the instincts of professional drivers and automated driving technology, then design new active safety technology harnessing what was learned.

2003 Toyota Matrix Autoblog Fleet Update

2003 Toyota Matrix Autoblog fleet update

In December, I bought a 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS to keep as a highway-friendlier alternative to daily driving my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. While "daily driving" is a bit of a misnomer under the current circumstances (your Autoblog editorial team is working from home), the fact of the matter is that spending any measurable amount of time behind the wheel of a two-door oxcart with an umbrella for a roof is just not ideal. Since I sold my 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 over the summer, the role of "highway car" has remained uncast. You can refer to the introduction linked above for the long version, but the Matrix slots into that role nicely.

As I mentioned in that piece, this XRS spent pretty much its entire life in Texas and New Mexico. Consequently, its undercarriage is virtually spotless. Yep, I imported a rust-free, high-mileage car to Michigan. You'd think that would be all upside, right? In reality, though, while a dry climate does wonders for preventing corrosion, a hot and sunny one wreaks havoc in other ways, especially on cars stored outdoors, which is exactly where you'll find a commuter hatchback like this one.

Snowstorm in Japan causes 134-vehicle pileup

TOKYO — At least 134 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes in Japan on Tuesday when a snowstorm struck a stretch of highway and one person was killed and a dozen hurt in the chaos.

The crashes occurred on the Tohoku Expressway in the northern prefecture of Miyagi at around noon, on a stretch of road about 1 km (half a mile) long, the government said.

Honda Previews European Hr - V, Announces U.s. - Specific Model

Honda previews European HR-V, announces U.S.-specific model

Spy shots taken in Germany earlier in 2021 suggested that Honda's next Vezel, which is known as the HR-V here in the States, would arrive with a much sportier design. While a new model is indeed on its way with a fastback-like roof line, the company told us that the crossover will not be sold in America. Instead, we'll get a different version designed specifically for our market.

"The development of a successor to the Honda HR-V for the United States market is underway. This new HR-V will be designed to meet the distinct needs of American customers, and it will differ from the Vezel/HR-V that will be introduced in other regions," the company explained in a statement, nipping any and all speculation in the bud.

2023 Toyota Gr Corolla Won't Get Hybrid Technology

2023 Toyota GR Corolla won't get hybrid technology

In early 2020, Toyota suggested it's cooking a spicier version of the Corolla. We haven't seen it yet, but an unverified report claims that the hot hatch will eschew the hybrid technology the Japanese firm is known for.

While some rumors claimed the model — which might wear the GR Corolla nameplate — would receive a high-performance gasoline-electric drivetrain, anonymous sources familiar with Toyota's plans told British magazine Autocar that electrification isn't on the table. Instead, the publication believes power will come from a 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine shared with the GR Yaris (pictured) and turbocharged to approximately 261 horsepower.

2021 Nissan Frontier Spied In King Cab And Crew Cab Forms

2021 Nissan Frontier spied in King Cab and Crew Cab forms

The wait for the redesigned 2021 Nissan Frontier won't be much longer at this point, but in the meantime, check out these fresh spy shots. A crew cab prototype truck was spotted on the road last year, and this is our first look at the King Cab. Plus, another Crew Cab is seen here driving with its smaller brethren for comparison.

This King Cab model appears to be a lower spec trim, as it's rocking halogen headlights — the crew cab also photographed here has LEDs. Folks who want a smaller truck will be happy to see that the King Cab has a pretty tiny cabin and a long bed hanging out back. It still doesn't look compact, but the smaller sized option is great to see.

Toyota Gr010 Hybrid Le Mans Race Car Unveiled

Toyota GR010 Hybrid Le Mans race car unveiled

Toyota introduced the GR010 Hybrid hypercar it will enter in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). New from the ground up, the gasoline-electric racer will spawn a street-legal variant in the near future.

What you see in the gallery above is what you'll watch going flat-out when the GR010 begins racing later in 2021. Regulations only allow manufacturers to homologate one configuration, so Toyota won't be able to modify the car's aerodynamic package for low and high downforce circuits. Instead, an adjustable rear wing allows engineers to tweak the drag coefficient as needed. It will be slower than the TS050 it replaces, the company warned.
