Toyota Rav4 - Based Mitsuoka Buddy Retro - Styled Suv Is Sold Out

Toyota RAV4-based Mitsuoka Buddy retro-styled SUV is sold out

Vintage trucks and SUVs, as well as their follow-ups, are in hot demand right now, and crossovers rule the world's sales charts. So few will be surprised to learn that Mitsuoka's quirky Buddy is sold out until 2023. Unveiled in November 2020, it blends styling cues reminiscent of 40-year old Chevrolet models with the efficiency and reliability expected from a new Toyota.

It's not entirely popularity that led to the Buddy selling out. Mitsuoka has never dabbled in volume, and the Buddy is no exception. It will only build 50 units of the Buddy in 2021, according to Motor1, and it will manufacture 150 more in 2022. There's no word yet on how many it will make in 2023. These numbers would be a rounding error if we were talking about the standard RAV4 (about 448,000 units were sold in America alone in 2019), but the Buddy is much more than a Toyota crossover with extra bling.

Production 2022 Acura Mdx Teased Ahead Of Official Debut

Production 2022 Acura MDX teased ahead of official debut

Acura will unveil the 2022 MDX in production form next Tuesday, Dec. 8, promising it will be "the most premium, performance-focused and technologically advanced SUV in Acura history." Acura will host the debut on its web site at 11:30 a.m. EST.

If you thought we already saw the 2022 Acura MDX, it's because we did. Acura showed the TLX-inspired design back in October with a "prototype." Like parent company Honda, Acura tends to show "prototypes" that are dead-ringers for their production variants, and this appears to be no different.

2021 Mazda Cx - 30 2.5 Turbo Priced

2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo priced

In our review of the Mazda CX-30, we said that this crossover is so gifted dynamically, it was practically begging for more power. Mazda answered by adding a new turbo engine for 2021, and now we know how much the extra grunt is going to cost. Mazda has released pricing for the more potent CX-30, and the Turbo model opens at $31,000 (including the $1,100 destination charge), putting it above even the top-trim base-engine version.

The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine makes 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular gas, or 250 horses and 320 lb-ft with 93-octane (against 186 hp and 186 lb-ft for the standard 2.5-liter). Besides the extra output, the CX30 2.5 Turbo also comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is $1,400 extra on the regular CX-30.

Honda Rumored To Be Developing S2000 Successor.

Honda rumored to be developing S2000 successor.

If a new report is to be believed, Honda may be planning a successor to the S2000 roadster. The original Honda S2000 was created to mark Honda Motor's 50th anniversary. The new car would be released in 2024, a quarter-century after the original's 1999 Japanese debut and coinciding with Honda's 75th birthday.

As reported by Forbes, who merely cites "a source close to Honda," the company's marketing team is "seriously considering" an all-new iteration of the S2000. Veteran Japanese auto industry reporter Peter Lyon says that 20th Anniversary Concept of the old S2000, which you may recall was shown at January's Tokyo Auto Salon, was intended to keep enthusiasm going for an upcoming model.

2023 Mazda Cx - 5 Will Allegedly Leap Upmarket

2023 Mazda CX-5 will allegedly leap upmarket

Mazda's next-generation CX-5 will graduate from premium to luxury to bolster the firm's upmarket push, according to a recent report. It will again take the form of a crossover, but it might spawn a fastback-like model.

Japanese magazine Best Car learned from company insiders that the next CX-5 will be comparable to the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. If that's accurate, the people-mover will receive substantial upgrades in the coming years, because the current model is not as big, not as luxurious, and not as quick as either of those SUVs.

2021 Acura Tlx Luggage Test | How Much Fits In The Trunk?

2021 Acura TLX Luggage Test | How much fits in the trunk?

The 2021 Acura TLX has a 13.5-cubic-foot trunk according to the spec sheet. That would be comparable to a typical compact mainstream sedan despite the TLX's exterior dimensions being more akin to a midsize sedan (its 194.6-inch length is right smack between a Toyota Camry and Honda Accord). Luxury cars usually sacrifice utility for style, and by adapting cab-rearward proportions for this latest generation, it shouldn't be surprising that the TLX follows the trend.

However, how much utility does the new TLX sacrifice and is the trunk still useful? Let's find out.

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Mazda 626 Sedan

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Mazda 626 Sedan

Mazda began selling cars in the United States all the way back in the late 1960s, with the Cosmo Sport 110S, and many interesting(ly strange) Wankel-powered machines followed, but they eventually gave way to much more conventional piston-powered cars such as the the original 626 that the ex-cork-making company from Hiroshima offered here starting in 1979. That car didn't sell so well, though it looked good and boasted build quality as good as the better-known Japanese brands. Starting with the 1983 model year, a new 626 with front-wheel-drive appeared here, with production continuing through 1987. That car did a better job at luring buyers away from Nissan and Toyota showrooms, but examples are nearly nonexistent today. Here's one of those cars, found in a Colorado yard overseen by Pikes Peak.

The World Needs A Hellcat - Powered Nissan Z Proto

The World Needs A Hellcat-Powered Nissan Z Proto

When the Nissan Z Proto spawns a production model, it will reach the hands of customers with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine pumping out 400 hp. However, we suspect there will be owners who will want even more performance and will swap out this six-cylinder for something a little more powerful.

Video Tells The Design Story Behind The Nissan Z Proto

Video tells the design story behind the Nissan Z Proto

The Nissan Z Proto has excited enthusiasts with its skillful reimagining of the Z-car idea that at the same time references the best of the model's past. Nissan now has released a video giving the design backstory of the sports car concept.

The video features Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan senior vice president of global design, and Saturo Tai, executive design director. Tai says the original Datsun Z is the car that as a kid made him want to be a car designer. Once he got to Nissan Design, he was part of the team that did the 1990 300ZX. Albaisa says that he, too, was spurred to become a car designer by the original Z. Early in his career, he was involved in shaping the 350Z.
