Coronavirus Infections Remain At High Level In Hokkaido

The daily count of new cases of the coronavirus remains high in Hokkaido, topping the figures for the 46 other prefectures in Japan for the third day in a row.
The health ministry reported 8,457 new infections in the northernmost prefecture on Thursday. The figure is up 1,153 from a week earlier.
Hokkaido had marked a new high for the prefecture on Wednesday, topping the 9,000-mark for two straight days.
The second highest daily tally was reported in Tokyo, where officials logged 7,969 new cases on Thursday, up 1,269 from a week earlier. That marks the sixth straight day of week-on-week increases.
Nationwide, the ministry reported 78,577 new cases and 100 deaths on Thursday.
