Electric Motorcycle Battery Swap Service Begins
A new company has launched a service in which motorcyclists can trade in their e-bike batteries for fresh ones before moving on.
The battery swapping station opened in central Tokyo.
It's the brainchild of motorcycle makers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha together with the major petroleum refiner ENEOS.
The firm plans to set up about 18 swapping stations in parking lots and parks across the capital by the end of next March.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government supports the project. Governor Koike Yuriko has set a goal to make all motorcycles sold in the capital gasoline-free by 2035.
She said at the ceremony on Tuesday that she hopes the service will accelerate the wider use of electric motorbikes "as we work toward achieving zero emissions."
