Govt. Issues Power Supply Warning For Tohoku Region

Japan's government has issued a warning of a possible electricity shortage in six northeastern prefectures and Niigata.
Officials on Tuesday called on households and businesses served by Tohoku Electric Power Company to conserve as much energy as possible.
The strong earthquakes on Wednesday forced some power plants operated by Tohoku Electric to shut down.
Tuesday's cold snap is expected to increase demand for electricity and strain supply in the region.
The government has already issued a similar warning for Tokyo and eight other prefectures.
