Heavy Rain Forecast For Eastern And Western Japan

Weather officials in Japan are warning of torrential rain through Sunday in the Hokuriku, Kinki and northern Kyushu regions.
The Meteorological Agency says humid air is flowing toward a low-pressure system accompanied by a front passing over the Tohoku region, leaving atmospheric conditions unstable over wide areas in eastern and western Japan.
Rain clouds are developing over the Sea of Japan coast between the Hokuriku and northern Kyushu regions.
The rainfall has heightened the risk of landslides in Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures in the Hokuriku region, and warnings have been issued in some areas.
Unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to continue until Sunday.
In the 24-hour period through Sunday evening, up to 100 millimeters of rainfall is forecast in the Hokuriku and northern Kyushu regions, and up to 80 millimeters in the Kinki region.
The Meteorological Agency is urging caution against landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, swollen rivers, lightning and tornadoes.
