Heavy Rain Is Forecast In Parts Of Kanto - Koshin Region On Wednesday Night
Weather officials are calling on people to remain vigilant after downpours caused landslides and flooding in parts of Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
Japan's Meteorological Agency says that in the town of Hatoyama in the prefecture, a record 360 millimeters of rain in total fell in the six hours through 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Heavy rainfall has loosened the ground in some parts of the prefecture.
The atmospheric condition continues to be unstable in the Kanto-Koshin region, which includes Tokyo and Saitama. Localized downpours accompanied by thunder may occur in the next several hours.
From Thursday to Friday, the atmospheric condition is expected to become unstable around the afternoon mainly due to a low pressure system over the Sea of Japan.
In Kanto's north and south and the Koshin region, up to 50 millimeters of rain is forecast in the 24 hours through Thursday evening and from 50 to 100 millimeters in the 24 hours through Friday evening.
The Meteorological Agency is calling on people to remain cautious about mudslides, swollen rivers and flooding in low-lying areas, as well as lightning strikes and gusty winds.
