Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Meeting Foreign Dignitaries For Third Day

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida meeting foreign dignitaries for third day

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is holding a third day of meetings with foreign dignitaries who are in Tokyo for the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.

Kishida held separate talks with six world leaders on Wednesday morning.

In his meeting with South Korea's Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Kishida thanked Han for the condolences expressed by President Yoon Suk-yeol and other South Koreans.

Han said South Korea and Japan are important cooperative partners who share the values of democracy and the free market economy.

He added that it is in their common interest to swiftly improve bilateral relations.

Kishida and Han are believed to have exchanged views on wartime labor and other issues that have soured relations.

The Japanese prime minister met the South Korean president last week in New York while attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Kishida is scheduled to meet with 14 dignitaries on Wednesday afternoon -- including former British Prime Minister Theresa May and Italy's former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
