Japan's Top Diplomat: Govt. To Draw Up China Policy By Analyzing New Leadership
Japan's Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa says the government will draw up policies regarding China by closely analyzing the new Chinese leadership.
China's ruling Communist Party elected seven members of the country's top decision-making body -- the Political Bureau Standing Committee -- at a recent party meeting. Committee member Xi Jinping began a historic third term as the country's leader.
Foreign Minister Hayashi declined at a Lower House committee meeting on Wednesday to comment on the activities of a foreign political party.
But Hayashi said analysis of Communist Party congress reports and the party's personnel matters is indispensable in formulating policies on China. He added that the government is collating the relevant information for study.
Hayashi responded to a question about contingencies involving Taiwan by stating that the government needs to be fully prepared while studying every possible scenario.
He refrained from adding details to avoid showing his cards.
