Kddi To Contact Customers About Compensation For Network Trouble

Major Japanese mobile carrier KDDI is sending text messages from Tuesday on details of its compensation plan to users affected by last month's nationwide network disruption.
KDDI says over 36 million customers will each get 200 yen, or about one dollar 50 cents, in the form of deductions to their bills or other means. Users of the company's subsidiary in Okinawa are also eligible for the refund.
Those who only use the company's data communications service will receive one gigabyte for free.
KDDI is warning its users of possible scams. The firm says its message does not ask users to input their personal information, nor does it contain any links to websites.
The nationwide service outage in early July continued for over 60 hours. It was one of the largest of its kind in Japanese history.
