Kishida To Instruct Ministers To Draft Further Economic Measures
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio plans to instruct relevant ministers to draw up additional economic measures as early as next Tuesday following price increases in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The measures are expected to include continued hikes in subsidies to oil wholesalers and support plans for those affected by the coronavirus. Reserve funds in the fiscal 2022 budget will be used to cover the costs.
On Wednesday, Kishida met with Yamaguchi Natsuo, the Chief Representative of Komeito, the junior party of the ruling coalition government.
The two agreed that additional economic measures would be necessary to deal with the situation, which was unexpected when the fiscal 2022 budget was drawn up.
Kishida will attend the summit of the Group of Seven nations in Brussels scheduled on Thursday.
