More Downpours To Hit Northern Japan

Weather officials in Japan are warning of more torrential rains on Tuesday in the north and northeast.
The Meteorological Agency attributes the unstable conditions to an influx of warm, moist air over the Sea of Japan.
Rain clouds are developing over the northern Tohoku region and Hokkaido.
Landslide warnings are in place for some areas of Hokkaido, where a large amount of rain has already fallen.
A low-pressure system accompanied by a front is on course to pass over northern Japan on Tuesday and move down toward eastern and western Japan through Thursday.
In the 24 hours through Wednesday morning, rainfall is expected to reach up to 200 millimeters in Niigata Prefecture; 180 millimeters in the Tohoku region; 150 millimeters in Hokkaido and the Hokuriku region; and 120 millimeters in the Kinki, Chugoku and northern Kyushu regions.
In the following 24-hour period through Thursday morning, rainfall is expected to reach up to 200 millimeters in the Hokuriku and Chugoku regions; 150 millimeters in the Kinki and northern Kyushu regions; and up to 100 millimeters in the Tohoku regions and Niigata Prefecture.
Meteorological Agency officials are warning of landslides, swollen rivers and flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, eastern and western Japan can expect sweltering conditions on Tuesday.
The cities of Maebashi and Kumagaya, northwest of Tokyo, will see a daytime high of 39 degrees Celsius. The mercury could top 40 degrees in some places.
Daytime highs will reach 37 degrees in the cities of Saitama, Takamatsu and Oita; 36 in central Tokyo and the cities of Kofu and Kyoto; and 35 in the cities of Fukushima, Kanazawa, Osaka, Okayama and Fukuoka.
