New Minister Shrugs Off Report Of Possible Violation Of Political Funds Law
Newly appointed Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Matsumoto Takeaki has rebuffed a report that he possibly violated the political funds control law.
The Japanese Communist Party's newspaper says the number of tickets sold for Matsumoto's past fundraisers exceeded the capacity of the venues where they were held multiple times.
Matsumoto held a news conference on Tuesday, the day after assuming his new post. He said he has handled his funds according to the law.
Matsumoto was also asked by reporters about his predecessor, who was forced to resign over allegations of inaccurate political fund reports.
He said he acknowledges that political funds are very important, from the viewpoint of trust in politics.
He said political funds must be dealt with appropriately by law, and efforts must be made to gain understanding by giving accurate explanations.
