Officials Of Japan, Us, S.korea Discuss N.korean Missile Launches
Senior government officials of Japan, the United States and South Korea have been holding discussions on the telephone over North Korea's continuous missile launches.
The officials are Funakoshi Takehiro, who heads the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, the US Special Representative for North Korea, Sung Kim, and South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, Kim Gunn.
The three talked for 25 minutes after North Korea's missile launches on Thursday morning.
They called the launches a provocative act and condemned the North for the unprecedented methods and frequency of the missile launches that took place for two consecutive days.
The officials said the North's actions are a grave and imminent threat to regional security as well as a clear and serious challenge to the international community.
They agreed to further promote security cooperation.
They reaffirmed that the three countries will continue to work closely together to respond to the situation at the United Nations Security Council, including implementing sanctions against the North.
