Police Find Pieces Of Bullet At Trial Shooting Site Used By Abe Assailant
Police in Nara Prefecture, western Japan, say they have found what appear to be parts of bullet that were fired by the suspect of last week's fatal shooting of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo while he was testing his handmade gun.
Abe was shot last Friday while making a campaign speech in Nara City. The suspect, 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya, was arrested on the spot and is now under investigation.
Yamagami has told the police that he had tested a gun he manufactured in mountains within the prefecture in advance of the attack.
The police said they searched the area based on the suspect's account. They said they discovered plastic fragments that appear to be part of the projectiles. Other items discovered also included a concrete brick, a drum and a wooden board.
The drum and wooden board had what appear to be bullet holes.
The police suspect that the arrested man had carefully prepared for the attack.
