Police Investigating Potential Arson At Ldp Yamanashi Branch

Police in Yamanashi Prefecture, central Japan, have found a charred object in the building housing Japan's main ruling Liberal Democratic Party's prefectural chapter.
They started investigating the incident as an attempted arson.
An alarm system went off around 5:00 a.m. on Monday at the office building of the Federation of Yamanashi Prefecture LDP Branches in Kofu City.
Police found the charred object on the floor of a men's restroom.
Police suspect that someone threw a burning object into the restroom through an open window.
They are checking footage from security cameras in the surrounding area.
LDP prefectural branch officials said they have been planning to set up a condolence book to coincide with the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo on Tuesday.
They said they will not change their plan.
Officials also say they have not received any statements claiming responsibility for the incident.
