Princess Kako Hopes For Equality At Event Marking Intl. Day Of The Girl Child

Japan's Princess Kako has expressed her hope for the realization of gender equality at an event marking the International Day of the Girl Child.
The younger daughter of Crown Prince Akishino gave a speech at a girl scouts' event in Tokyo on Sunday. It was held to observe the day, which was on October 11.
The princess noted that girl scouts engaged in activities aimed at realizing gender equality at camps across Japan. She said she hopes everyone will be able to have more options in their lives and choose paths which can make the most of their potential.
She also said she wishes for a society in which such a way of life is natural.
Individuals and groups received awards at the event for their social contributions.
Two high school students in Tokyo were recognized for selling handmade items at their school and donating the proceeds to support girls in developing countries.
Princess Kako asked the students about how they decided where to donate the money they raised, and how they conveyed the importance of their activity.
