Ruling Ldp Working To Address Relief For Ex - Unification Church Followers

A senior member of Japan's main ruling party is asking two major opposition parties to quickly find common ground for new legislation involving religious groups.
Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Motegi Toshimitsu spoke to reporters on Tuesday about providing relief to former followers of the religious group that used to be known as the Unification Church.
The LDP, its junior coalition partner Komeito, the Constitutional Democratic Party, and Nippon Ishin Japan Innovation Party are set to hold a sixth round of talks on Tuesday afternoon.
They are expected to debate restricting malicious methods such as "mind control" to extract donations.
Attention is on whether they can have such legislation enacted during the current session of the Diet.
Motegi said he will make an all-out effort so that wide encompassing measures will quickly be drawn up to provide relief to victims and to prevent any recurrences.
In the previous round of talks the opposition side criticized the ruling camp for asking it to confirm 54 points in a bill that it had proposed.
Motegi said the opposition had not responded to questions from the initial meeting. He said it's not as though the ruling camp suddenly presented the 54 points, but that it compiled them at the request of the opposition.
