State Minister Signed Former Church Affiliate's Policy Proposal Pact
Japan's state minister for digital transformation has admitted to signing a document approving of policy proposals by an affiliate of the former Unification Church before last year's general elections.
It has recently come to light that several lawmakers of Japan's main ruling Liberal Democratic Party signed similar documents prior to national elections.
State Minister Ogushi Masaki told a Diet committee on Wednesday that he signed the document on October 3 last year, shortly before the Lower House was dissolved.
Ogushi said he recalls the affiliate's proposals were similar to the LDP's policies. They included amending the Constitution.
He said he received no campaign cooperation from the group, and was only given a recommendation.
Asked why he had failed to disclose the matter earlier, Ogushi responded that his office in his home constituency had not been able to locate the document until Tuesday.
