The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 6,316 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday.

The daily tally climbed more than 2,200 from a week ago.

The number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines rose by four from Sunday to 20.
