Tokyo Governor Koike Gives Lecture At Cairo University
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko has given a lecture at her alma mater in Egypt.
Koike is in the country for a five-day stay. She plans to take part in the UN climate conference COP27.
On Sunday, the first day, she spoke before students who are studying Japanese at Cairo University.
Koike told them that she is very glad to return to her university. She said she thought about how Cairo would grow while studying there, and that as the governor of Tokyo, she is now putting what she learned to practical use.
Koike then explained that Tokyo officials are working to amend an ordinance to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The ordinance requires new homes to be fitted with solar power generation equipment.
In a question-and-answer session, a student asked Koike how Egypt has changed since she was at the university.
The governor replied that she finds the country's population growth powerful. She said educated people gather in Egypt, and it has great potential.
During her stay, Koike is also scheduled to deliver a speech at COP27 and visit a university of science and technology. The university was set up with support from Japan.
