Tokyo Reports 11,511 Covid Cases, Topping 10,000 For First Time Since March

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 11,511 new cases of the coronavirus in the capital on Tuesday. The number exceeded 10,000 for the first time since March 16.

The figure is up 6,209 from last Tuesday.

It's the 25th straight day of week-on-week increases. It is also the eighth consecutive day that the daily tally has more than doubled from a week earlier.

The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in Tokyo is 12, up three from Monday.

Tokyo officials also reported one death from the virus on Tuesday.
