Tokyo Reports 17,884 Coronavirus Cases

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 17,884 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday -- the first time in nearly three weeks the daily number was under the 20,000 mark.

The daily tally is down about 4,000 from a week ago and marks three straight days of week-on-week decline.

The number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines rose by three from Sunday to 39.
