Tokyo Reports 31,541 New Cases Of Coronavirus
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 31,541 new cases of the coronavirus and eight deaths on Sunday.
The number of new infections was up 3,429 from a week ago, and is the capital's highest figure for a Sunday. It was the 12th consecutive day that the count was higher than the previous week.
The seven-day average through Sunday came in at 32,177.6. That was up 31 percent from the week before.
Tokyo officials said the number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines stood at 23, down one from Saturday.
They also said one girl under the age of 10 and seven people in their 70s to 90s died.
