Tokyo Reports 8,018 New Coronavirus Cases On Saturday

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 8,018 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday.

That's down 1,970 from a week ago.

The daily tally in the capital has fallen week-on-week for 27 straight days.

The seven-day average stood at 8,333, which was 83.5 percent of the figure for the previous week.

Tokyo officials say 24 seriously ill patients are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines.

They also said 10 people infected with the virus died on Saturday.
