Tokyo Rolls Out Ba.5 Boosters At Large - Scale Vaccination Sites
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has begun administering coronavirus vaccines targeting the dominant BA.5 subvariant at large-scale venues.
The rollout began on Friday at multiple sites. Residents aged 12 or older can visit with or without appointments, along with non-residents who work or attend school in Tokyo.
People who want to get the shots must show proof of having received two or three shots of an earlier type of vaccine, with the last jab administered at least five months earlier.
At a site in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, a nurse who works at a hospital in the capital said she's glad she got inoculated when BA.5 is still prevalent.
A metropolitan government official said he wants people to consider getting the shots quickly, as vaccines are effective in preventing the spread of infections.
Nationwide, some municipalities started BA.5 vaccination on Thursday.
