Top Rhythmic Gymnasts From Ukraine, Japan Practice Together

Top rhythmic gymnasts from Ukraine and members of Japan's national team have taken part in a joint training session in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
The Ukrainian athletes have been unable to train in their country because of the Russian invasion. They have been staying in Takasaki City since October 5. The Japan Gymnastics Association and city officials arranged for them to visit and train in Takasaki.
Fourteen Ukrainian gymnasts and 14 gymnasts from Japan's national team practiced at the Takasaki Arena on Thursday.
The two teams warmed up together using hoops and balls. The gymnasts then split up to practice their group and individual routines separately.
Members of the public were invited to watch the training session. About 300 people were mesmerized by the gymnasts' performances.
The Japanese team gave the Ukrainian athletes sweets and other gifts after the training session. The athletes encouraged one another to keep working hard.
The Ukrainian gymnasts will continue training through Friday and return to Ukraine next Wednesday.
Suzuki Ayuka is the captain of Japan's national team. She said watching the Ukrainian athletes try to improve their performances has given her team the courage to keep going.
