Ainu Dances To Be Performed At Olympic Venue
A group of indigenous Ainu people in the northern Japanese prefecture of Hokkaido will perform traditional songs and dances at the venue of the Olympic marathon and race walk events in the prefecture, sources say.
The Ainu events will take place in the prefectural capital Sapporo between August 5 and 8.
Dancers from across Hokkaido will perform 13 songs and dances, while keeping a distance from one another as preventive measures against the coronavirus.
Sources say the organizer hopes to take advantage of the Tokyo Games 2020, whose concept is "Diversity and Harmony," to showcase Japan's ethnic and cultural diversity.
The performance will be staged five times in a square near the start and finish point of the marathon and race walk events.
