Govt. Urges Anti - Virus Measures Ahead Of Olympics

Athletes and sports officials are arriving in Japan ahead of the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony on Friday. Meanwhile, the Japanese capital remains under a state of emergency, reporting over 1,000 new coronavirus cases for five consecutive days.
The Japanese government implemented thorough coronavirus screenings at airports and is working with the Tokyo organizing committee and others to isolate Olympic athletes and staff away from the general public.
The government is also calling on people to refrain from nonessential travel across prefectural borders.
Coronavirus advisory panel head Omi Shigeru said the next two months will be a crucial stage in dealing with the coronavirus. This period includes summer vacation and the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
The Japanese government has set the next seven weeks from Monday as a period for the public and private sectors to work together to promote teleworking.
Japan's minister in charge of the coronavirus vaccine rollout, Kono Taro, indicated that he is working to determine the amount of vaccines available for delivery to local governments through September.
The government has said it aims to meet the demand for vaccinations by October or November.
