Guidelines Revised For Olympic Host Towns

The Japanese government has revised guidelines for local municipalities hosting foreign athletes who will participate in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The guidelines were revised to enhance anti-coronavirus measures to be taken by municipalities that will accept foreign teams for pre-Games camps and exchanges with residents.
The guidelines call for local authorities to ask foreign teams to properly manage behavior and health for 14 days prior to arrival in Japan.
They say that if any member of a foreign delegation tests positive at an airport's quarantine check, government officials should identify possible close contacts based on their flight's seating arrangements and transport them to designated facilities on a separate bus.
The guidelines also stipulate that if any infection is confirmed during pre-Games camps, all members staying together should quarantine individually and suspend training. Those who have not had close contact with the infected person and have tested negative will be allowed to resume activities.
The guidelines say that when traveling by bus, sufficient ventilation is necessary. They say the driver and athletes should avoid using the same restroom.
They also say foreign delegations should use private rooms at their accommodation facilities in principle, and avoid staying in big groups in large rooms.
The new guidelines were shown to the host towns on Wednesday.
