Ntt, Intel, Docomo To Offer Olympic Viewing In 5g

Japanese telecom giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone aims to offer a unique viewing experience for spectators at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. It will tap high-speed 5G networks to transmit dynamic live images, working with partners Intel and NTT Docomo.

Footage of sailing competitions shot with 4K cameras mounted on drones and boats will be livestreamed to a large screen that spans 50 meters.

Meanwhile, smart glasses will give spectators at swimming events results and other data while they are watching the races live.

NTT engineer Kinoshita Shingo said his team wants to provide a close-up feeling of realism that television broadcasts cannot deliver.
