Ticket Lottery To Be Held For 7 Olympic Sports
Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics say a lottery will be held for tickets to seven sporting events, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, to limit spectators in line with coronavirus safety rules.
The organizing committee has decided to restrict spectators at Olympic events to less than 50 percent of venue capacity, with a maximum of 10,000.
Since some events have more ticketholders than will be allowed, a lottery will be held to reduce their number.
Apart from the two main ceremonies, lots will be drawn for 97 sessions in seven sports -- track and field, soccer, golf, modern pentathlon, rugby, surfing, and baseball and softball, which are considered one event.
The capacity does not include invited schoolchildren, official tour participants and guests of Games officials.
Lottery results will be announced before dawn on July 6 on the ticket sale website.
The committee says the total 3.63 million Olympic tickets sold will be pared down to 2.72 million.
Final applications for ticket refunds will be accepted from July 6 through 15.
