2023 Mazda Cx - 50 Is Bigger, Burlier Than Cx - 5

2023 Mazda CX-50 is bigger, burlier than CX-5

Although Mazda is still keeping plenty of the specifics about the 2023 CX-50, its most rugged SUV, under wraps, Mazda engineer Dave Coleman provided plenty of information to give us a much better idea of the size of the vehicle and what it's based on. Generally speaking, it's bigger than the existing CX-5, and it's more capable.

The CX-50 is based on the same basic platform as the Mazda3 and CX-30. And that extends to the suspension design of MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the rear. This is because this platform was designed with the torsion beam in mind, and Coleman and Mazda contend that this suspension design was used to keep vehicle motions simple and natural-feeling.

2023 Mazda Cx - 50 Revealed As Outdoorsy Compact Suv With Upcoming Hybrid

2023 Mazda CX-50 revealed as outdoorsy compact SUV with upcoming hybrid

Mazda has announced a whole expanded line-up of fresh SUVs coming in the next few years, and the first of them has finally been revealed. The 2023 Mazda CX-50 will fill a slot above the CX-30 with a size similar to the CX-5. And it will have a number of interesting features, including an upcoming hybrid powertrain.

The design looks like a more rugged and butch version of the CX-5. It has broader fenders with more detailed plastic flares. The grille has a bolder bezel and can be had in gloss black. There are even sporty matte black decals available for the hood. Mazda also noted that the rear doors were given particularly wide openings to make it easier to step on the sills for access to the roof rack. The interior is reminiscent of other Mazdas, with its minimal dash, large hidden air vents and emphasis on the instrument panel. But it gets touches such as the vertical air vents around the instruments that make it unique and a bit more squared-off in shape. It also features a new interior color called Terracotta.

Subaru Crosstrek And Crosstrek Hybrid Get Slight Price Bump For 2022

Subaru Crosstrek and Crosstrek Hybrid get slight price bump for 2022

Subaru has released pricing information for the 2022 Crosstrek and the 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid. Both models cost more than they did for the 2021 model year, though the increase is relatively minor, and the Japanese firm also increased the mandatory destination charge.

Buyers again have four trim levels to choose from called base, Premium, Sport, and Limited, respectively. Pricing for the base model — which comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission — starts at $22,445, an increase of $200 compared to 2021. However, the destination charge goes up from $1,050 to $1,125, so the cost of an entry-level 2022 Crosstrek amounts to $23,570 ($275 more than in 2021). Buyers who replace the stick with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) will need to spend $24,920 including destination.

The New Acura Integra Was Never Meant To Be A Retro Car

The new Acura Integra was never meant to be a retro car

The new Acura Integra Prototype was never supposed to be a retro or nostalgic design process. It would be easy to assume it was, as Acura's messaging leading up to the big reveal leaned heavily on the Integra nameplate's heritage. From the model name embossed in the bumpers, to videos of shifting the older model's manual transmissions, Acura yanked fairly hard on our heartstrings.

And then the cover came off last week, and while there are very subtle cues hinting at old Integras here and there, the new car doesn't look much like the old ones at all. Unlike designers of the new retro-tastic Nissan Z and Ford Bronco, Acura decided to create something altogether new and different.

2022 Toyota Camry Adds Nightshade Trim To Hybrid Range

2022 Toyota Camry adds Nightshade trim to Hybrid range

Toyota tweaked the Camry formula for 2021 with small but numerous changes, after the splashy additions of the TRD trim and all-wheel drive in 2020. The 2021 model dropped the base L trim and added an XSE trim that combined the SE's sportier appearance, suspension, and steering with some of the premium interior features from the XLE. Different trims got revised front fascias so they could be told apart, for those who keep track of Camry design. And Toyota added its latest Toyota's Safety Sense driver-assist suite, with access to features like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights and a rear-seat reminder.

The big news for 2022 is Toyota making the Nightshade package available to the Camry Hybrid; previously, it could only be had on non-Hybrid trims. Nightshade dresses the window trim, badging, door handles, mirror caps, and shark fin antenna in black, and sets the sedan on 18-inch black alloys. Prices for 2022 for the regular and Hybrid ranges, along with price differentials from the 2021 prices at launch after the $1,075 destination fee, are:

Lexus Lfa Successor With Phev Drivetrain In The Works?

Lexus LFA successor with PHEV drivetrain in the works?

Reports out of Japan say that a successor to the Lexus LFA is in the works. While this news should come with a planet-sized grain of salt, there is a non-zero chance. And since the LFA is one of the best sports cars we've driven, it bears at least considering, so let's look at the mere possibility of a successor.

Best Car magazine claims to have in their upcoming Dec. 10 issue a scoop about the new "super sports" car. They say that the successor is a plug-in hybrid with a front-midship layout (the heavy motor behind the front axle) under a carbon fiber body. The gas side of the equation is said to be a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 generating approximately 937 horsepower. It's supposedly scheduled for a 2025 debut.

Toyota Supra Manual Rumors Heat Up In New Report From Japan

Toyota Supra manual rumors heat up in new report from Japan

Rumors of a manual Toyota Supra are swirling yet again thanks to a report from Japan indicating that production of a 3.0-liter inline-six model with a six-speed could happen a soon as early 2022.

This time, the report comes to us by way of Australia's Drive, who spotted the note on Japanese blog carsensor.net indicating that a manual transmission is on the way for a special GRMN Supra model powered by a high-output version of the car's BMW-engineered 3.0-liter S58. This isn't the first time such rumors have come up, and it probably won't be the last – unless it's true, of course.

2022 Toyota Rav4 Gets Cheaper Se Hybrid Trim

2022 Toyota RAV4 gets cheaper SE Hybrid trim

The Toyota RAV4 celebrates its 25th anniversary in the U.S. market next year. The crossover that started it all, including giving us the word "crossover," won't stop being a sales success, having minted its ten millionth unit last year. For the moment, Toyota hasn't announced a special model, but we know the carmaker likes to celebrate the milestone with anniversary cars. Until we get more info, the changes for the 2022 RAV4 start with a new SE Hybrid trim. Parked in the tiny space between the XLE and XSE Hybrids, the SE is for buyers who want a little more sport and style than the XLE offers but not all the opulence of the XSE. Considering there's not even $2,000 between the MSRPs of the XLE and XSE, we look forward to finding out how the SE splits the difference.

The SE comes in mono-tone paint colors outside, with fabric-trimmed seats inside, plus the lower-tier seven-inch touchscreen and six audio speakers. Two packages will be available to upgrade the ambience. A Weather Package adds a heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, and rain-sensing windshield wipers with a de-icer. The Convenience Package installs a moonroof, a height adjustable power liftgate, and Toyota's Audio Plus that bumps the infotainment touchscreen to nine inches. The SE Hybrid will also offer a Calvary Blue exterior hue, as will the XSE and TRD-Off-Road.
