For the past 18 months, professional drifter Ryan Tuerck and his team have been building one of the most insane drift cars ever designed. Work on the car has now been completed.
Fresh off the launch of the new 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro in mid-September, the first commercial for the truck has been released.
Italian design house ItalDesign has reached a major milestone. It has finished building the first five examples of the GT-R50, a limited-edition supercar based on the GT-R and developed jointly with Nissan, and it has sent the initial batch of cars to customers around the world.
Unveiled as a concept in June 2018, and introduced as a production model in December of that year, the GT-R50 was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both ItalDesign and the GT-R. It's clearly an evolution of Godzilla, but it wears a specific design that gives it a more futuristic look than the regular-production car. Each coupe is tailor-made by hand in Turin, Italy, and the firm notes that it won't build two identical units. Customers are invited to configure their car by selecting the exterior paint and the interior materials, among other details.
TOKYO — Japan's top automaker Toyota reported Thursday a 33% jump in second fiscal quarter profit, as it raised its full year forecast despite supply chain woes related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Toyota recorded a 626.65 billion yen ($5.5 billion) profit for the July-September period, up from 470.5 billion yen the previous year. Quarterly sales rose 11% to 7.5 trillion yen ($66 billion).
Lexus just announced a new F brand strategy at SEMA, and while the products themselves are not getting a massive overhaul yet, it's vital to understand the new terms if you plan on being in the market for a sporty Lexus soon.
Prior to today, we had F Sport, F Sport Performance and F. The F Sport cars were mostly aesthetic upgrades, and while some of them had performance upgrades, not all of them did. Only one F Sport Performance vehicle exists now, and it's the IS 500 F Sport Performance. Meanwhile, we have a number of F models, which is Lexus' highest-performance moniker.
Lexus has brought a handful of special cars to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and is celebrating its F performance brand in style.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si has its official pricing, and it's in an interesting spot. Complete with destination fee, the sport compact starts at $28,315. That's a bit of an increase over the previous generation that started around $26,000. It's reflective of the new-generation sedans and hatchbacks that are generally a bit pricier than the previous Civic.
As before, the Si comes pretty nicely equipped. Standard equipment includes a sunroof, 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control and adaptive cruise control. It's also got a standard manual transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential.
Joining in with the big American automakers with some wild SEMA concepts is Toyota. Its custom rides this year are all trucks, including the new 2022 Toyota Tundra full-size truck. The two most impressive were built in-house at Toyota Motorsports Garage, including the showstopping Tacoma "Tacozilla" camper you see above. Let's dig into them, shall we?
This probably would've been a showstopper if Toyota had just slapped a camper shell on the back of a Tacoma with a retro paint job, but the company went further than that. The entire camper shell is a custom one-off fabricated from aluminum by the Toyota team. It was designed to fit the lines of the Tacoma and offer plenty of space, specifically enough for a 6-foot person to stand up straight inside. It's also open to the truck cab for additional space and easy access. Further integrating it with the Tacoma design are the factory rear fender flares added to the camper shell. The camper has all the comforts of home, too, with a full bathroom with hot-water shower, a kitchen with stove and sink and a 3D-printed fold-up dining table. The flooring is even made of teak. The truck picks up some off-road upgrades, too, such as a 2-inch lift, nearly 33-inch all-terrain tires, a winch, skid plates and off-road lights.
The Toyota Tundra has been redesigned for the first time in more than a decade, so it comes as little surprise the truck is looking to make a splash at SEMA.
Yamaha unveiled a concept called Tricity Rough Road that lands in an unusual niche: off-roading scooters. While go-anywhere machines are hugely popular, the design study was created for the men and women tasked with monitoring and responding to natural disasters.
As its name implies, the Rough Road isn't entirely new. It's an evolution of the Tricity, a three-wheeled scooter sold in a number of global markets — it's a common sight in major European cities. It gains off-road tires, extra lights, tubes that protect the body panels, and racks designed to hold a luggage. Yamaha envisions that riders will carry first-aid kits and medical supplies, and enthusiast website Visor Down reports that there's a drone stored in the top case. It lets rescue workers find people in need or survey areas affected by disasters.
The forthcoming 2022 Honda Civic Type R has been filmed being pushed to its limits at the Nurburgring and looks very, very quick.
Mazda has quietly revealed the most lightweight version of its fourth-generation Roadster, known in the U.S. as the MX-5 Miata, yet. They've dubbed it the 990S because it weighs just under 990 kg, or approximately 2,180 pounds. For those keeping track, that's about the mass of a first-gen Miata.
The minimalist Miata was unveiled at a gathering of Roadster enthusiasts in Japan. According to Car Watch, Mazda demonstrated its dedication to shaving weight by removing sound deadening material from under the hood and in the cabin. The 990S also substitutes stock wheels with forged units made by Rays, scrubbing 1.76 pounds each. It uses aluminum Brembo brake rotors as well, which measure larger but end up being lighter than the standard steel units, saving 1.54 pounds.
Most compact SUVs are marketed in a way that encourages you to envision fun family outings spent taking advantage of their all-wheel drive and enhanced practicality in the great outdoors. Let's face it, though: relatively few families will actually do that, and some compact SUVs frankly wouldn't be very good at it. The 2022 Subaru Forester is the real deal, though, and its owners are far more likely to actually live the life the owners of other SUVs only envision. The outdoorsy set is still a minority, mind you, but the Forester's standard all-wheel drive, class-leading ground clearance, ample cargo capacity, sturdy roof rails and relatively simple interior does indeed make it well suited for their adventures.
It's with all of the above in mind that Subaru leans in for 2022 with the new Forester Wilderness, pictured above. As we describe in its specific review, its multiple upgrades provide a genuine increase in capability off the beaten path. It's not just some quasi-rugged appearance package. We also like that it's a mid-grade trim rather than a range-topper, making it more accessible to more buyers. The Wilderness gives the Forester an even clearer leg-up in a specific area (the outdoorsy realm), which is key, since the regular Forester is otherwise a mid-pack player in the segment, hampered by an underwhelming engine, ho-hum design and the simple fact that rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue and Mazda CX-5 are just so strong.
