Volvo Updates Xc60 And Adds Android - Based Infotainment To More Models

Volvo updates XC60 and adds Android-based infotainment to more models

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is getting a number of minor updates, plus Volvo is rolling out its Android-based infotainment system to more of its lineup.

Starting with the XC60 news, Volvo is subtly adapting the front and rear bumper styling. It gets new front side intakes and a massaged lower bumper opening. Neither of those nearly unnoticeable changes do much to influence our opinion of the car. The new rear bumper design reveals a slight character adjustment, though. Like other recently-updated Volvos, the exhaust exit is made invisible under the car — there are no longer any exhaust pipes exiting from the rear. The dual exhaust seen on the regular XC60 was a nice touch, but this is simply more of Volvo preparing us for the electric future to come.

This past year has been different for all of us, and it appears Ken Block's famed video series and tire nightmare, Gymkhana, was no exception. Instead of featuring the DC Shoes co-founder behind the wheel of one of his many trusty Fords, this time around the video features Block's rally rival Travis Pastrana, in none other than a Subaru. Diehard Gymkhana fans will know that this is hardly the first time a Subaru has been featured in one of these videos. This time around, "Gymkhana 2020" which took place in Pastrana's hometown of Annapolis, Md., featured his WRX STI rally car, as well as a cameo from the new BRZ and a custom-made WRX STI, the latter of which is being given away by Omaze.

2021 Nissan Rogue Aces Iihs Crash Test After Faltering In Nhtsa Tests

2021 Nissan Rogue aces IIHS crash test after faltering in NHTSA tests

It's been a minute since a single model has caused this much attention to be cast on it due to crash test scores, but here we are with more news on how safe the 2021 Nissan Rogue is.

Nissan just announced its intention to retrofit 2021 Rogues made before January 28 with new equipment to better protect the passenger in a crash on account of a two-star front passenger-side NHTSA crash test rating. Nissan told us that "the changes include updating the passenger air bag module, replacing the front passenger seat belt and updating related software." A second test will be run with these updates in May.

Watch Mitsubishi Express Van Bend Its Way To 0 - Star Crash Test Rating

Watch Mitsubishi Express van bend its way to 0-star crash test rating

Mitsubishi became a champion of economies of scale when it joined the Renault-Nissan alliance in 2016, but the merger triggered at least one undesirable side effect. The Express, a badge-engineered version of the Renault Trafic van, received a zero-star crash test rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Released in Australia and in New Zealand in 2020, the Express was damned by the safety watchdog for lacking chest protection, a central airbag to prevent the occupants from hitting each other and an airbag for the passenger sitting in the middle of the three-person bench. ANCAP also noted the model is not available with electronic driving aids, like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and lane-keeping assist.

Infiniti Formula One - Inspired Q60 Project Black S Has Been Canned

Infiniti Formula One-inspired Q60 Project Black S has been canned

Infiniti gave enthusiasts a preview of what a high-performance hybrid coupe equipped with Formula One-derived technology could look like when it released the Q60-based Black S concept in 2017. While executives hinted the 563-horsepower model could reach production sooner rather than later, the company confirmed it's been axed.

Industry trade journal Automotive News learned the concept was consigned to the automotive attic from an Infiniti spokesman. He pointed out the design study "continues to inspire us," but he didn't explain why the Black S won't reach production. We're not surprised by the decision, though. It was a complex, eye-wateringly expensive version of a slow-selling model unveiled in 2015. Making the numbers add up was likely easier said than done.

Next - Generation Honda Pilot Spy Photos Reveal Ridgeline - Style Fascia

Next-generation Honda Pilot spy photos reveal Ridgeline-style fascia

The current Honda Pilot has been around since the 2016 model year, so it's no surprise that Honda's testing a new version of it. Based on the spy photos shown above, the new one will look much more aggressive. Not only that, but its shape and proportions suggest this isn't just a refresh and is using the new Acura MDX's platform and suspension.

The most obvious and easily spotted change to the Pilot is the front fascia. It now has a chunky, upright grille and headlights that look very similar to the Honda Ridgeline's. This seems like a smart idea considering that ever more rugged crossovers are doing well in the market.

2021 Honda Ridgeline First Drive Review | Less Friendly By Design

2021 Honda Ridgeline First Drive Review | Less friendly by design

CANTIL, Calif. — Ever since jumping into the U.S. market in the 1950s with the tagline "You meet the nicest people on a Honda," the company's corporate image has been one of extreme friendliness.  Even as its Si and Type R coupes spawned an army of young brand loyalists other carmakers would've killed for, it treated them like a dropout stepson, shunning them to embrace the wholesome, khaki-shod Helpful Honda Dealer. Hell, even their best-selling cars are named for good citizenship and agreement.

That unyielding desire to be congenial was the Achilles' heel of the current-generation Honda Ridgeline when it debuted in 2017. We had almost unanimous praise for our long-termer's function and features notwithstanding its gentle mug. It was supposed to be the friendly neighborhood pickup, with a car-like unibody construction and a look that was more conventional than the vaguely avant garde original Ridgeline.
