2021 Honda Talon Review | New Side - By - Sides An Absolute Off - Road Riot

2021 Honda Talon Review | New side-by-sides an absolute off-road riot

CANTIL, Calif. — To be honest, I never really got the appeal of side-by-sides. The only place I encountered them was while off-roading my 2003 TJ Jeep, which seemed compact and rugged enough, but could also be a fully functioning street-legal car with air conditioning. Luckily, Honda forced me out of my bubble by giving me a spin in a 2021 Talon when we took a new Ridgeline (more to come on that) to the company's Mojave Desert proving grounds for testing. It was lucky because as it turns out, this side-by-side is an absolute riot.

Introduced in 2019, the Honda Talon is a relatively new player in the sport side-by-side class. It debuted with two versions — the nimble 1000X and the brawnier, wider-tracked 1000R. Though it was a latecomer, Honda quickly catapulted to the No. 2 spot in sport SxS sales. Part of that has to do with the fact that the lineup expanded to include a four-seater (1000X-4) that can be had with or without Fox Live Valve shocks. Now, for 2021, those shocks can be had on the two-seat models, bringing the number of Talon models up to six: 1000X, 1000R, 1000X-4 and the Fox Live Valve versions of each.

Lexus and RTFKT create a sneaker inspired by the 2021 IS 350

We can all rest easy at night, now that one of the world's great questions — What would a Lexus IS look like if it were a shoe? — has been answered. Lexus has collaborated with streetwear brand RTFKT to make a sneaker inspired by the 2021 Lexus IS.

The project is part of a Lexus campaign called "All In" that celebrates people who are passionate about their craft. For the cynical, you can read this as a campaign that uses influencers in non-automotive fields to put the IS in front of a new audience and attract younger customers to the Lexus brand.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Pricing And Fuel Economy Numbers

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander pricing and fuel economy numbers

Mitsubishi has announced pricing on what is probably the most compelling — and important to the company's future — product in a decade, the 2022 Outlander. As we learned at the reveal, the base ES trim will start at $25,795, or $26,990 when the destination charge is factored in. Fuel economy figures are also in, giving the Outlander a rating of 24 miles per gallon in the city, 31 on the highway and 27 combined for the front-wheel-drive model. Mitsubishi's S-AWC all-wheel-drive system, which is available on any trim for $1,800, drops one mpg highway and combined.

By way of comparison, the base 2021 Nissan Roque, which uses a similar engine and platform, gets 27 city, 35 highway and 30 combined in front-wheel drive guise. That combined figure matches that of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. It's worth noting that the Mitsubishi Outlander comes standard with a third row for seven-passenger seating, so a direct comparison with the Rogue isn't exactly fair.

Next - Gen Honda Cr - V Spied Through The Grapevine For The First Time

Next-gen Honda CR-V spied through the grapevine for the first time

A new Honda CR-V is coming soon, as one of our spy shooters just caught the next-gen model out testing for the first time. It wasn't an easy catch. The shooter says they used an ultra-long telephoto lens to shoot from a long distance away from this secret European testing facility.  It was shot through trees and fencing, but the majority of the car is still in full view to be taken in.

First impressions go to size and shape. It looks like the CR-V may be growing in overall footprint versus today's CR-V — though we're not ruling out the possibility that this is a Euro-spec version with a third row, as is offered in Europe today. Front and rear overhangs remain substantial, but the new design approach in front makes it appear longer than before. Honda seems to be adopting a more rugged aesthetic, as the gently sloping hood is replaced with a straight, flat one. This leads into a grille and front bumper design that is much more flat-nosed than before.
