No-fly zone to be created over former PM Abe's state funeral site

The Japanese government will create a no-fly zone above the site that will host the state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, who was fatally shot in July.

The state funeral will take place on September 27 at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward. Dignitaries from overseas are expected to attend.

Govt. to spend about $1.8 mil. on former PM Abe's state funeral

The Japanese government will spend about 1.8 million dollars on a state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, who was fatally shot in July.

The Cabinet approved the expenditure of about 250 million yen, or about 1.8 million dollars, from this fiscal year's reserve funds in a meeting on Friday. All expenses for the funeral will be paid from state coffers.

Police investigating a fatal bus crash say a fire broke out immediately after the bus overturned on an expressway in Nagoya City, central Japan.

The bus was heading for Nagoya Airport from the city center on Monday morning. The vehicle hit a divider between two lanes on the expressway and overturned before it caught fire.

TEPCO to again postpone start of nuclear fuel debris removal at Fukushima plant

Tokyo Electric Power Company says it will postpone by up to 18 months the start of nuclear fuel debris removal from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi power plant that suffered triple meltdowns in the 2011 nuclear disaster.

The company, also known as TEPCO, explained on Thursday that the work to remove fuel debris from the three reactors is unlikely to start until the fall of 2023 at the earliest. The company had previously said the work would start this year.

The head of Japan's police agency says he intends to resign over last month's fatal shooting of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo. The announcement comes following the release of a review of the security at the time of the incident.

Nakamura Itaru said, "The National Police Agency believes it is necessary to steadily implement measures based on the new security requirements under a new system to prevent such an incident from happening again. Today, I conveyed to the National Public Safety Commission my intention to resign, in an effort to revamp personnel affairs."

The database is part of a project to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Japanese anime. Japan's first animated cartoon was produced in 1917.
