Vice foreign ministerial-level officials of Japan, the United States and South Korea have agreed to closely cooperate to enhance regional deterrence of North Korea's missile threat.

Japan's Vice Foreign Minister Mori Takeo spoke by phone with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun-dong on Monday.

A nonpartisan group of Japanese lawmakers plans to hold a general meeting this week with a South Korean parliamentarians' group. The meetings have been suspended for three years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Religion researchers issue statement on ex-Unification Church

A group of religious researchers in Japan has called on authorities to exercise their right to ask questions to bring about a swift investigation into the religious group previously known as the Unification Church.

Twenty-five researchers, including Professor Emeritus Shimazono Susumu of the University of Tokyo and Professor Sakurai Yoshihide of Hokkaido University, issued a statement.

Japan economic package to lift GDP by 4.6%

Japan's government has decided on an economic package, designed to tame the impact of rising consumer prices and the weaker yen.

The Cabinet approved the package on Friday. It features local and central government spending worth a total of around 39 trillion yen, or about 270 billion dollars.
